Migraine is a severe headache along with a feel of nausea that have multiple symptoms like aura and attack & have number of causes varying from person to person. It usually result in a pain on one side of the head but often on both the sides. Though migraines are not that dangerous to life but are severe in nature.
What can be the causes associated with migraine ?
As already said that migraine may have different causes varying from person to person such as dehydration, stress, drinking wine or other hard & soft drinks, taking caffeine in high amount, hormonal changes in women, physical factors such as sports and sex activities & weather changes, sleep changes, sensory stimulation, food, jet-leg or a family history.
SYMPTOMS
If we talk about symptoms, there are four stages a migrainoid has to cross. A person may start getting migraine headache in adolescent but it is not necessary that every migrainoid pass through all these stages in their lives. It may happen that they pass through first or second stage only.
These four stages are
Prodrome
Aura
Attack
Post-drome
Prodrome- Under this condition, migrainoid starts getting symptoms of migraine before one or two days of migraine headache. These symptoms can be a sudden increase in thirst and urination, mood changes, constipation, increased frequency of yawning and many more.
Aura- This is a condition before or during migraines. These symptoms are generally related to vision problems but can be other. It can be vision loss, seeing various shapes and bright spots, weakness, hearing different types of voices, itchiness and pins & needles all over body, mainly in arms and legs.
Attack- This is the stage where migrainoid feels severe pain on one side of the head or on both the sides, nausea and vomiting. These attacks create a sensitivity to light, smell, sound or touch.
Post-drome- This is the last stage after attack that leaves the migrainoid person with a feel of weakness, confused and drained.
TREATMENT
Migraine do not have any permanent treatment although this can be controlled and reduced but can't be permanently treated. A migrainoid may follow the following do's and don'ts to control the frequency of aura or attack.
Do's
1. Stay hydrated.
2. Avoid direct sunlight.
3. Take enough sleep.
4. Include magnesium in your diet such as oatmeal, and cashews.
5. Check the weather before stepping out and temperature of your room.
6. Bathe your feet and hands before bed.
7. Have some vanilla extract and dark chocolate.
8. Treat your body with soft hand massage.
9. Track the frequency of your migraine attacks.
10. Maintain a healthy weight.
Don'ts
1. Avoid intake of caffeine and hard & soft drinks (included sugar) like soda, coke, wine, and other cold drinks.
2. Do not skip your meal.
3. Avoid stress.
4. Create your environment with music.
5. Avoid smoking.
6. Avoid chocolates.
7. Avoid your intake of citrus fruits like tomatoes & onions and dairy products.
Some instant relief ways for a sudden migraine-

▪️Have some cashews and almonds.
